RSA Ensemble: Students compose original songs or music and perform them as an ensemble  With a focus on popular and world music styles. PREREQUISITE: Able to play an instrument and/or sing at a high level

Singer/Songwriter I: This course will involve students individually and collectively creating songs in their own style(s) using tools of songwriting such as guitar, piano, ukulele, voice, lyrics, and computer. This will all culminate with a presentation of the songs for the school community. Level II + III students are expected to be able to sing and play their instrument at the same time and will be encouraged to make albums, music videos, and more deeply engage in their creativity. Students will be required to provide their own instrument. PREREQUISITE: Be able (or willing to learn) to sing and play a chordal instrument (guitar, ukulele, piano, mandolin, etc)

Music Theory and Listening Skills for Beginners: Interested in playing music? Don't know where to start? This class will introduce you to basic music theory, providing you with the skills needed to read and write Western music notation, as well as to understand, analyze, and listen informedly. It will cover material such as pitches and scales, solfege, intervals, clefs, rhythm, form, counting, time signatures, and basic harmony.

Intro to A Cappella: History of Vocal Music: People have been singing for longer than we’ve been human. Students will learn the history of vocal music, from prehistory through the modern day, and experience singing songs from each historical period to discover how different styles feel in the voice; the capstone is a performance of a few student-chosen songs. No previous singing experience necessary!

So You Want to Start a Band: Starting a band takes a lot more work than you might expect. Students will receive an overview of topics such as choosing bandmates, defining their style, writing and recording songs, setting budgets, finding gigs, and marketing their music.
